Suspensions could alter season for the Nuggets

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Tuesday 19 December 2006 at 5:22 am

When the NBA handed down their suspensions for the Nuggets-Knicks fight, they came down hard on the Nuggets.  Carmelo Anthony was suspended for 15 games, JR Smith for 10 games and Nene Hilario for one game.  So the Nuggets will be without their top 2 scorers for 9 more games after last night.  Carmelo Anthony is averaging 31.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game this season.  He will be replaced in the starting line-up by Linas Kleiza which is a gigantic drop.  JR Smith is the Nuggets second leading scorer as he’s averaged 16.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game so far this season.  Smith will be missed for his three-point shooting as he leads the Nuggets having made 60 of them.  The next closest Nuggets player is rookie Yakhouba Diawara with 18.  Diawara will be starting in place of Smith, so maybe he’ll be the outside shooter the Nuggets need until Smith returns.  Nene was only suspended for last night’s game.

Marcus Camby steppin up

Blogged under Steppin Up, Front Page by Nothing but Net on Tuesday 19 December 2006 at 4:28 am

Marcus Camby does all the dirty work for the Nuggets.  He rebounds well and plays some mean defense…which is rare on the Nuggets.  Camby is averaging 10.5 points, 11.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.2 steals and 2.4 blocks per game so far this season.  Camby also is a great finisher on the fast break because he runs very well for a big man.

Under manned Nuggets beat the Wizards 117-110

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Tuesday 19 December 2006 at 4:25 am

The Nuggets were missing two starting players due to suspension (JR Smith and Carmelo Anthony) and still beat the Wizards.  The Nuggets outscored the Wizards 65-46 at halftime and held the Wizards to 39.3% shooting from the floor.

Earl Boykins led the way for the Nuggets with 29 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists off the bench.  Andre Miller had a fine game directing the offense with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists.  Marcus Camby had a monster game with 25 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 blocked shots!   Linas Kleiza started in place of Carmelo Anthony and he wound up with 10 points and 6 rebounds.  Rookie Yakhouba Diawara scored 8 points starting in JR Smith’s spot.

The Nuggets improved to 14-9 on the season with this win.

Nuggets blow out the Knicks 123-100

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Sunday 17 December 2006 at 2:49 am

The Nuggets manhandled the Knicks and shot 57% from the floor.  Carmelo Anthony had another outstanding game with 34 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.  Marcus Camby was awesome in the paint with 24 points, 9 rebounds and 7 blocked shots.  JR Smith added 13 points.  Andre Miller did a great job directing the attack with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists and 3 steals.  Earl Boykins (12 points) and Reggie Evans (9 points, 8 rebounds) played well off the bench.

The Nuggets improved to 13-9 with this win.  They will lose some players to suspension due to an ugly fight at the end of the game in which 10 players were ejected from the Knicks and Nuggets.  Alot of punches were thrown.

Nuggets forget to play defense and lose 119-114

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Saturday 16 December 2006 at 11:36 am

The Nuggets fell behind 64-47 in the first half and the Celtics shot 56% from the floor.  That was too much to overcome.  Carmelo Anthony was on fire with 42 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.  Andre Miller had a decent game with 18 points and 6 assists.  JR Smith added 15 points.  Earl Boykins added 14 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists off the bench.  Marcus Camby was tough around the basket with 11 points and 7 rebounds.

The Nuggets fell to 12-9 with this loss.
