The Denver Nuggets acquire Malik Allen from the Bucks

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Nuggets News, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 21 July 2009 at 5:19 pm

The Denver Nuggets have acquired 31-year old power forward Malik Allen from the Bucks for 23-year old power forward Walter Sharpe and 23-year old shooting guard Sonny Weems. Allen played in 49 games (3 starts) for the Bucks last season and he averaged 11.8 minutes, 3.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. He has now played in 409 games (122 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 16.2 minutes, 5.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. Allen should provide some muscle off the bench for the Nuggets during the 2009-2010 NBA season. Walter Sharpe was recently acquired from the Pistons but he didn’t show much for them as a rookie last season averaging only 1.0 point and 0.4 rebounds per game. Sonny Weems played in 12 games (0 starts) as a rookie for the Nuggets last season and he averaged 4.6 minutes, 1.6 points, 0.3 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. This was another good trade for the Nuggets as Allen should give them some solid minutes off the bench.

The Denver Nuggets re-sign Chris Andersen

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Nuggets News, Front Page by alleyoop on Wednesday 15 July 2009 at 8:23 pm

The Nuggets have re-signed Chris “The Birdman” Andersen to a 5-year contract. The 31-year old power forward played in 71 games (1 start) for the Nuggets last season and he averaged 20.6 minutes, 6.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 0.4 assists and 2.5 blocked shots per game. It was a sterling comeback for Andersen who was suspended for a couple of years due to drugs. He has now played in 329 games (9 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 17.3 minutes, 5.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 1.5 blocked shots per game. Andersen is a fan favorite of the Nuggets and he brings big time energy off the bench. This was a good move for the Nuggets.

The Denver Nuggets acquire Arron Afflalo and Walter Sharpe from the Pistons

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Nuggets News, Front Page by alleyoop on Monday 13 July 2009 at 4:47 pm

The Nuggets have acquired 23-year old shooting guard Arron Afflalo and 23-year old forward Walter Sharpe from the Pistons in return for a future 2nd round pick and some cash. Afflalo played in 74 games (8 starts) for the Pistons last season and he averaged 16.7 minutes, 4.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. Afflalo has played two years in his NBA career covering 149 games (17 starts) in which he averaged 14.8 minutes, 4.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. The Nuggets are hoping that Afflalo can replace what Dahntay Jones used to give them off the bench as he now plays for the Pacers. Walter Sharpe only played in 8 games (0 starts) as a rookie last season in Detroit and he averaged 2.5 minutes, 1.0 point and 0.4 rebounds per game. This was a good trade for the Nuggets who get two young players without giving up much.
