The Denver Nuggets have finally waved goodbye to Carmelo Anthony but they got a nice haul for him. Who knows, they might still make the playoffs this season but it is going to be a tad harder now. The Nuggets are 32-25 on the season which has them in 3rd place in the Northwest Division, 4.5 games behind the Thunder in the Northwest Division. The Nuggets are currently #7 in the Western Conference, 14.5 games behind the Spurs. The Nuggets are currently 1/2 a game behind both the Blazers & Hornets and they are ahead of the Grizzlies & Jazz, so they have little room for error. The new guys are going to have to hit the ground running if the Nuggets are going to make it back to the playoffs this year.
BIGGEST SURPRISE: 25-year old Arron Afflalo has stepped up his game for the Nuggets so far this year. He has played in 57 games (all starts) for the Nuggets so far this year and he is averaging 35.1 minutes, 12.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Afflalo has been a outstanding shooter from everywhere on the court as he is hitting 50.2% from the floor, 43.8% from three point range and 86% from the free throw line. It will be interesting to see if Wilson Chandler’s arrival cuts into Afflalo’s P.T. the rest of the year.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: 31-year old forward Al Harrington was supposed to give the Nuggets good shooting off the bench. But, that hasn’t been the case so far this year as he is hitting 41.4% from the floor and 36.8% from three point range. Harrington has played in 51 games (2 starts) for the Nuggets so far this year and he is averaging 25.0 minutes, 11.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. The Nuggets are really going to try to move Harrington before the trade deadline this Thursday.
